Turn A Hedgehog Loose In Your Library

If you're looking for some projects to capture the interest of your Children's Department's young patrons you would be hard-pressed to find a better resource than Jan Brett's very special Website. Brett, the popular author/illustrator, has included a wide range of material including projects, coloring pages, bookmarks, character masks, and more. And there are projects (called "Piggybacks") of lessons specifically intended for classroom/group situations using some of Brett's books. Much of the site relates to specific Brett books but even if she is not well represented in your children's collection there are plenty of projects on this site that you will find of value, and many (such as the coloring pages) that don't require a color printer or other special hardware.

If you're not planning youth projects or events, this Website is worth a hyperlink from your library Web page—there are audio and video files (Real), a contest, email postcards and a wealth of JPFS (Just Plain Fun Stuff).

The site grants permission for school and library use or this material.

Thanks to Pam Carlson, Children's Librarian, Orangewood Branch, Orange County Public Library (Calif.) for introducing LM&PR to http://www.janbrett.com.
